The new LAMP Portal has gone live LAMP is the acronym for âLockwood Analytical Method for Predictionâ. The LAMP Portal (http://www.lamp-method.org) is the starting point for students, academics and intelligence specialists to explore the LAMP method, its applicability and to participate in the information exchange with other professionals. The LAMP Portal is sponsored by the American Military University (AMU) (http://amu.apus.edu). Dr. Jonathan S. Lockwood developed LAMP in the early 1990s under the nominal supervision of the then US Defense Intelligence College (now the US Joint Military Intelligence College). It is a methodological, 12 step approach to predicting short-term, unique future events. LAMP analyses build on various analytical and planning methodologies and combine relevant elements of those. This method is anchored in rational choice theory, synthesizing tenets of rational choice with tenets of other predictive analytic techniques such as Alternative Futures and the Delphi Method. Using primarily qualitative empirical data, LAMP allows the analyst to predict the most likely outcomes for specific research questions. The portal offers ⦠- a section on the LAMP method itself with thorough descriptions of the method and example analyses - a depository for LAMP papers and other resources on LAMP - a forum for the exchange of ideas and issues related to LAMP - a section with background information on Dr. Lockwood himself, the creator of LAMP Dr. Jonathan S. Lockwood is a member of the AMU faculty. In January 2006, he was promoted to Full Professor at AMU and teaches as the lead professor for Strategic Intelligence studies. He has over thirty years of experience in the fields of intelligence analysis, wargaming, military history, US/Russian strategic perceptions, and predictive analysis and has authored several books and monographs on these topics.About this article
